Accepting a prestigious award on stage is an exclusive experience in the world of entertainment, and every performer has a unique interpretation of this moment of recognition for their work.

Hunter King, known for her role as Summer Newman in the renowned soap opera ‘The Young and the Restless,’ is no stranger to this feeling. She’s a recipient of two Daytime Emmy Awards for her role in the series. What may come as a surprise to fans, though, is that she likens her maiden Emmy acceptance on stage to a scene from the film ‘Mean Girls.’

Starting her acting journey early, King had made guest appearances on TV series such as Roswell, Dexter, and Hannah Montana, before landing a main role in the short-lived drama ‘Hollywood Heights’ as a teenager.

In 2012, she joined the Y&R cast as Summer, the daughter of Nick Newman and his ex-wife Phyllis Summers. She eventually became the longest-serving actress to play the role of Summer.

Throughout her stint on Y&R, she had the opportunity to portray Summer’s character through numerous plot developments, including two marriages, numerous love affairs, and the discovery of her real father.

Her portrayal of Summer earned King two Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Younger Actress in a Drama Series category.

Her first Emmy was awarded in 2014, approximately two years after her Y&R debut.

In a chat with the Dishing With Soap podcast by Soap Opera Digest, King revealed that the night was unforgettable for her and she celebrated intensely with her mother.

Accepting her award on stage, she compared the moment to a scene from the movie ‘Mean Girls’. “I couldn’t believe – I still can’t believe it – that I won,” she remarked.

Considering the talent in her category, she confessed her wish to mimic a moment in ‘Mean Girls’ where a piece of a tiara is broken and thrown to the crowd, wanting to do the same with her Emmy.

However, King ended up taking home her entire Emmy. As she revealed to Soap Opera Digest, her awards are displayed around her house, with one interestingly located in her bathroom.

“One of [my awards] is in the upstairs bathroom… on the back of the toilet,” she confessed. “It’s just a good conversation starter when people come over and they’re like, ‘Wait, what? An Emmy’s in the bathroom?’”

The other Emmy travels around her house, popping up in places like her kitchen and pantry. Living with her sister and frequently hosting guests, she seems to enjoy their surprised reactions upon discovering an Emmy in an unexpected place.
